Kedarnath dham will Reopen for devotees on 10th May 2024, the news has been confirmed by the Badrinath-Kedarnath Committee on the auspicious occasion of Mahashivratri.

On 8th March 2024, Badrinath-Kedarnath committee announced the reopening of the doors of eleventh Jyotirling, Kedarnath Temple. The doors of Temple will reopen at 7am Morning on 10th May 2024.

The pilgrimage begins on May 6th with the departure of the Panchmukhi Doli. It will wind its way through various stops, culminating in its arrival at the sacred Kedarnath Dham on the evening of May 9th and Kedarnath dham will Reopen on 10th May.

The significant decision was reached during a religious ceremony held yesterday. Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee President Ajendra Ajay was present for the ceremony.

Every Year due to heavy winter snowfall, Kedarnath Dham becomes inaccessible for six months. During this time, the idol is housed at the Pachkadar Gaddi Sthal Shri Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath, Uttarakhand. Its return to Kedarnath coincides with the reopening of the pilgrimage route in April or May.

The Door of Kedanath Dham closed after to days of Diwali, i.e. on the Occassion of Bhaidoojh for the winter season and reopens in the month of April or May.

This year, the doors of temple was closed on 15 November 2023 with the devotional performance of Indian Army Band, and that was witnessed by approximately two thousand five hundred devotees.

Historical connection with Mahabharat

Steeped in legend, Kedarnath is linked to the Pandavas, the famed warriors of the Mahabharata. Burdened by the weight of war’s sins, the Pandavas relinquished their kingdom and embarked on a quest to seek forgiveness and blessings from Lord Shiva. Their journey led them to the breathtaking Kedarnath.

Spring bursts into bloom from April to June, painting Kedarnath in a vibrant palette. Pleasant weather with temperatures between 10-15°C makes it the ideal time to visit. This coincides with the Char Dham Yatra, transforming Kedarnath into a mesmerizing confluence of spiritual seekers and natural beauty.
